With our own research center and exclusive seed varieties, innovation is at the heart of our development. Promoting hulless oats, Semican is well established in feed for horses and poultry, offering a diversified range of derived products. Our company then diversified to offer a complete service to local producers, putting its know-how at the service of the purchase and enhancement of Canadian crops. In 2022, Semican created a certified oat and barley processing plant for human and animal food, following its mission of "Nurturing Excellence".

1982
Since our founding in 1982, we have established ourselves as one of the most dynamic seed companies in Canada. It all began with the production and processing of cereals, serving Quebec, Ontario, the Maritimes, and the Northeast United States.
1996
To reinforce our leadership position, in 1996, we opened our research center dedicated to continuous improvement and innovation. This center allows us to develop high-performance seed varieties tailored to the regions we serve and the current challenges of agriculture.
Over the years, we have expanded our offerings to include the sale of cereal and forage seeds, as well as the development of specialized markets in equine and poultry feed. Semican is recognized for its customer service, quality, and innovation.
2019
In 2019, the leadership of Semican was passed on to shareholders who were all from within the company.
2022
As a result, in 2022, we equipped ourselves with a certified facility for processing barley and oats for the human and animal food markets.

Processing Plant
This project was born from a desire to diversify and close the loop, from seed to plate. Demand for oat flakes and processed barley is growing significantly and local supplies are currently insufficient to meet demand.
Our certified processing plant allows efficient valorisation of grains while meeting the highest quality standards. Thanks to state-of-the-art facilities, we are able to promote the product of local producers while maintaining consistent quality.
Every step of the process, from receiving raw materials to shipping finished products, is rigorously controlled to ensure compliance with the highest industry regulations and standards.
